The second largest tree in Ohio is just north of Columbus, across the street from a vet’s office 🌳
Welcome to Wednesday, Columbus.
Ohio is sometimes portrayed nationally as a sea of flat land. Corn fields and suburbs as far as the eye can see. But we know that isn't true. Ohio is full of natural beauty.Just north of Columbus you'll fine some of that beauty in an unlikely place. It's the second largest tree in the state of Ohio, and will soon be the largest as the current champ has stopped growing and started deteriorating. Just bring a wide angle lens, because it's big.Navigator full story: The Second Largest Tree In Ohio Is Just North Of Columbus, Across The Street From A Vet’s Office [Wiley]

Navigator Originals ✏️Lt. Governor Mary Taylor Reveals How Her Healthcare Plans Part Ways With Those Of Kasich’s [Miller]Mary Taylor has let everyone know that she's not a softy like John Kasich - she has no problem kicking kids and the poor off of Medicaid. I think of Ohio as a generally moderate, level headed state (which is why our brand of state level Republican is generally more the business 1950's throwback, instead of the modern know nothings), but if starts electing candidates like Taylor or Josh Mandel I will have to rethink that opinion.Middle West Spirits’ Service Bar Will Open In October [Wiley]This is exciting news: Middle West Spirits will be opening a bar and restaurant in October. This restaurant has been a long time coming; it was held up due to regulations that forbid distilleries from operating kitchens. This has now been changed to all of our benefit.Opinion: Gaslighting By City Officials Has Led To Intensified Protests By The Community [Miller]I think everyone in America is looking for strong and reasonable leadership right now, and that includes people in Columbus. But the response from Mayor Ginther and other city officials with regards to policing issues has been muted, at best. How A Documentary Filmmaker Investigated The Forgotten Women Of Ohio [Miller]In 2014, women in Chillicothe were turning up missing. A filmmaker investigated.

Around Town 🏘1812 Columbus set up a wishing tree at Independent's Day in Franklinton over the weekend, and received almost 500 handwritten wishes for Franklinton. Interesting project, and my sincere wish would be that we'd all consider what current and long time Franklinton residents want as the neighborhood stands on the brink of tremendous change. [1812/Iannone]Bob Evans Farms has sold to Post Cereal for $1.53 billion. The company sold it's restaurant business earlier this year, and now I think questions have to be asked about the long term prospects of the current New Albany headquarters. Part of the deal is that the headquarters will be untouched, but the decision going forward will, of course, be made by a company based in St. Louis. [Business First/Smith]We don't usually cover this kind of thing, but it's so bizarre it had to be mentioned. A Westerville teacher took most of a school year in paid leave in 2013 because her husband was dying of brain cancer, and then took more leave later for a bout of her own with cancer. As you've probably guessed by now, she made all of it up, going so far as to forge documents from doctors, the Ohio Department of Health, and even a funeral home. [Dispatch/Gilchrist]
