The Scioto Peninsula development has been a bit of a long and winding road, with the initially chosen developers getting the boot soon after winning the development contract. Three different developers are now tackling phase 1 of the project, and the initial renderings are in. You're always risking architectural blandness when so much of an urban area is developed all at once, and I think we're seeing some of the danger of that with the portion of the development that faces downtown - there could be more personality, and it could be a little less matchy-matchy. But there are portions of the renderings that are exciting as well, particularly portions of the proposed hotel. See what you think at the link below.

This is going to read like parody, but no, this is real: a permit has been issued to install a Dollar General on the 1st floor of a downtown luxury apartment building on Columbus Commons. Some rapid-fire thoughts: 1) Are you looking for recession indicators, because, uh ... 2) Is this not some of the most valuable real estate in the city? 3) Dollar stores are

well known for preying on distressed areas

, which, again, raises some red flags here. Yikes.
