The Perfect Ohio Adventure, Election Updates, and Taco News aka Wednesday. 🛤🇺🇸🌮

Columbus Navigator Logo

Hello Wednesday. It's James.

Yesterday was primary day in Ohio, and things largely went as expected. Issue 1, the anti-gerrymandering initiative passed easily (some experts think it won't make much of a difference, while others are more optimistic), and your contenders for governor will be Richard Cordray and Mike DeWine. This was such an obvious outcome that we called it last November. The Dennis Kucinich entry into the Democratic race and the drama between Mike DeWine and Mary Taylor all added up to very little.Elsewhere, Trump endorsed candidate Jim Renacci will be facing Sherrod Brown for Senate. Columbus City Council will be seeing some changes as issue 3 passed. Issue 3 looks like a bone to avoid further citizen action with regard to how Columbus City Council is structured, but we'll see. Those are your highlights, but for all the election results, click here. Now on to your regularly scheduled newsletter.

The Perfect Ohio Adventure Awaits You On The Buckeye TrailFrom the rolling hills of southeastern Ohio to the rocky ravines of the Cuyahoga Valley, there are stunning sites around most corners. And, in my opinion, there is no better way to explore our state than the Buckeye Trail.

Wednesday Weather 🌡80 and mostly sunny but a slight chance of showers starting in the afternoon. 🌤

If you know a teacher consider giving them a heads up - they deserve a break.

Around Town 🏘A Columbus City School is receiving positive national attention for how they handle negative student behavior. Ohio Avenue elementary is teaching students to think about trauma students have endured and then leaving judgment calls largely up to them. They also provide students with self regulation tools so that they can help themselves during tough situations that might lead to acting out. It's refreshing just to see a school trying something different - and it seems to be working. Ohio Avenue has an A rating for progress on it's latest state report card. [The Atlantic]Breakfast with Nick visited Indianapolis recently, and has some tips for us. Indy is an underrated day or weekend trip this time of year. [Breakfast With Nick Part 1] and [Part 2]This story of a CCAD senior making clothing for children with special needs is terrific. Highly recommend. [Dispatch/Oller]
