Happy Wednesday! James here.

Kollektiv+Wunderbar has taken over the old Max & Erma's in German Village, and it works. The coworking space and bar fit the space well (and the renovation is great, which we'll get to below), but what I'm particularly excited about is Pierogi Mountain serving food out of the bar kitchen. If you haven't had the pleasure yet, make the time.

Sure, it's a chain, and I don't know how much love there is for Max and Erma's, but I always had a soft spot for the German Village location. I'll miss it, but I love the new design, and especially the appreciation shown for the history of the building.

Willie Nelson, plus the Avett Brothers and more - this should be a good time. And, not to be morbid, but Willie is 85, so ... don't put off till tomorrow what can be done today.

Talking Points ❀️

Saying Goodbye

Luke Perry passed away on Monday, which you probably knew, but you might not have known Perry was an Ohioan. He was a

, a

, and a

. That last link has wonderful photos of Perry in high school that double as a time capsule of what it was like going to school in rural Ohio during the early '80s. The photos of Perry in a Fredericktown letterman's jacket, as well as the photo of Perry as Fredericktown mascot Freddie Bird, are particularly great.

DeWine's Gas Tax Progresses - Sort Of πŸ’Έ

Ohio GOP lawmakers don't agree with Governor DeWine that the state's road funding situation is dire. They have taken his 18 cents per gallon gas tax proposal and

. Not only that, they want to phase it in over three years. To make up for some of the difference, they are proposing to raise the tax on diesel fuel by 20 cents. Hybrid and electric cars will be more heavily taxed, with a new $200 registration fee for electric vehicles, and $100 registration fees for hybrids. The GOP is saying this is because of "fairness" - not because it will raise significant revenue. Meanwhile, Ohio has

.

Scooters Are Probably Taking Cars Off The Road πŸ›΄

Continuing from that last point,

suggests electric scooters, love them or hate them, are probably taking cars off the road. 34% of riders said their last scooter trip would have been in a car if the scooter had not been available, while 48% of tourists said the same. That's just the start - a larger percentage than I would have expected (22%) even said they were considering giving up their cars because of scooters. Electric scooters, even with all the hype and discussion they have inspired, might still be one of the most under the radar stories in recent years.
