Columbus State's new culinary center is going to be an awesome spot to grab a bite downtown 🍽

Columbus Navigator Logo

Welcome to Wednesday. It's James.

Columbus State is doing something interesting with their new culinary center, partnering with Cameron Mitchell on a new building named Mitchell Hall that will feature a student run restaurant and bar, a bakery/cafe, a conference center, farm-to-table gardens, and a culinary theatre, with outdoor patios and great views of downtown galore.

While the new food options and patio options sound exciting, the most important thing is that Columbus State will be able to double the size of their culinary and hospitality program with the additional space. Hit the link for renderings and more details.

Wednesday Weather 🌡82, showers and thunderstorms likely. ⛈

I was recently reminded that the state of Ohio is spending over a billion dollars building a bypass around Portsmouth: a city with declining population and traffic. $1.2 billion would probably smooth out a lot of roads in central Ohio.

Around Town 🏘Ok, so not Columbus here, but Cincinnati is just down the road, and guys it's a three story tall swing suspended from the ceiling of a gutted Cincinnati home so I'm calling it close enough. 8 year old me is freaking out over these photos. Also, some of the old locations can still be spotted as they've been turned into other things. This is an interesting history of the chain, along with photos of Ritzy's locations in disguise. Longread 🏰A castle in the French Alps was recently renovated, and when workers pulled up the floors they found something amazing: a diary written by a carpenter in the late 19th century. It's an incredible look at life at the time, written with a frankness and candor that may startle if you're used to reading conventional histories. It's full of sex, scandal, corruption, and frank talk about religious matters of the day (this guy was not a fan of the local priest).BBC: The secrets of a diary written on castle floorboards
