Art Pop

The ArtPop Street Gallery is back! ArtPop Cbus will shine the spotlight on our city’s talented artists by placing their work on available billboards and newsstands throughout Franklin County. Franklin County visual artists working in all media are invited to submit artwork for consideration and possible display on one of five available billboards circulating the central Ohio region in 2020. Click here for more info! πŸŽ¨

Happy Wednesday! Chelsea here.

I don't know about everyone else, but I could really use a little getaway right now. Don't get me wrong. I love living downtown, but every now and then, I find myself in the mood for some campfires and stargazing, and those activities are definitely not as much fun in Merion Village. Luckily, Ohio has plenty of wonderful places to get away for a weekend of camping.

I love looking at old videos of Columbus. It's such a great way to see how our city used to be. If there's one takeaway from this beauty its that I had no idea there used to be so many neon lights downtown!

Talking Points ❀️

A Running Pandemic Project πŸ‘Ÿ

To the runners and thinking-about-running members of the audience, this site looks like a fun pandemic-year project. You sign up and attempt to run every street in your city. Some will be more difficult than others, of course. When I search "Bexley" I learn people there will get to play this game on easy mode (

) while

(medium difficulty - and two people there are 100% complete!) and Columbus comes in with

. The leader right now has done 25.15% which is kind of mindblowing.

Columbus Books πŸ“š

Books touching on Columbus in some way or another are having a little moment, and all five of these selections look like great things to have in the house.

Ohio Canals πŸ›Ά

Canals were such a major part of the way life worked in America, for a fairly long time, especially in Ohio with the Ohio-Erie canal, but now it's not something we really remember much, particularly when compared to all the railroad nostalgia. I had no idea there was a "feeder canal" built in Columbus in 1827 that went from Columbus to Lockbourne, where it fed into the Ohio-Erie canal. This article talks about that a little more and includes a very cool photo from the 1880s showing that feeder canal near W. Main St.
