Where To Have A Perfect Picnic In Columbus 🥂

Happy Wednesday! Chelsea here.

We've got some COVID-19 updates to chat about today, but before we dive into that, I did want to suggest something fun. I know social distancing is important to many of you and I know we're all looking for fun and safe things to do this summer. So one thing I've been doing more is picnicking. There are some really great spots to throw down a blanket away from other people and enjoy a date or family afternoon. Bust out that fancy picnic basket you never use and have some fun, Columbus.

As coronavirus cases continue to climb in Franklin County, the Governor has issued a mandate that face coverings will be required for people in public starting tonight at 6 p.m. Six other counties will also be mandated to wear masks.

Is Way Back Wednesday still a thing? Even if it's not, let's take a little trip back in time to the 1970s when a popular teen show was filmed at Westland Mall.

Talking Points ❤️

Maximizing The Backyard 🏡

Most everyone is spending at least a little more time at home this year. Cabin fever in the middle of July isn't normally a thing, but here we are. The challenge for parents is a little bit elevated, which is why I thought this article on ideas for the backyard was great. Some of them are a little obvious but keep scrolling because there are some real gems. There are even some solid ideas that are workable even if you aren't blessed with much outdoor space.

More Of This Please 🌱

I love things like this - Blendon Township normally has an annual garden show, but since that is impossible this year judges are driving around and awarding 40 residents with gift cards to recognize their landscaping and beautification efforts.

Perspective 🏡

, and so housing insecurity and homelessness are on my mind a lot lately. Alive spoke with Bill Faith, director of the Coalition on Homelessness and Housing in Ohio about what the pandemic has meant so far for homeless shelters, and Columbus Monthly recently profiled Huckleberry House and their new housing purchases. They're both good reads.

It is so. very. hot. Please be careful with the heat advisories this week, and be on the watch for storms that could turn dangerous the next few days. Heatwave breaks this weekend, and we're almost there! ☀️
