Parsons Ave. has a new, swanky veggie restaurant πŸ˜πŸ₯—

Happy Wednesday. It's Chelsea.

I'm sure you've heard me say it 1,000 times, but just in case you all forgot, I'm going to remind you that I live on the south end. Merion Village to be exact. I live off Parsons Ave. which means anytime something new happens down here, I get ridiculously excited about it. I'm not a vegetarian, but I can tell you that the avenue's newest restaurant is definitely on my list of favorites. Tracie, our resident vegetarian, went to check it out, and boy was she impressed.

It's the middle of the week and it's cold, therefore I think we've all earned at least 2 minutes of staring at the cutest pets of Columbus. I honestly can't get over the last one. It brought me so much joy.

Coach Meyer announced his upcoming retirement yesterday and I think it sort of broke Ohio. It was basically all anyone was talking about, and you best believe they were

talking

about it. So many feelings.

Talking Points ❀️

Urban legend...

You've seen some reaction up above, and doubtless, you'd already heard: Urban Meyer will be stepping down as head coach of Ohio State football following the upcoming Rose Bowl. He will be replaced by Ryan Day, the current offensive coordinator and QB coach. Urban will leave with an 82-9 overall record (54-4 in Big Ten play), three Big Ten titles, the 2014 National Championship, and an astounding 7-0 record vs. Michigan. Imagine being a Michigan fan and knowing it's over. They'll never beat Urban Meyer.

Gentrification vs. Revitalization

The word gentrification gets tossed around casually these days, particularly in Columbus, but just what does it mean? I think most think it means rising rents and sale prices pushing working class and poor people out of a neighborhood, but it's actually a process with distinct stages. I found this to be a fascinating explainer that I think helps categorize Columbus neighborhoods and situations, while also discussing the difference between gentrification and revitalization, two things often discussed as if they are interchangeable.

Decriminalization has a voice at City Hall...

City Council president Shannon Hardin wants to explore marijuana decriminalization in Columbus, where marijuana possession would be treated, at worst, like a parking ticket. The idea is that this would level a playing field where marijuana is already de facto legal for whites, but criminalized for African-Americans. Hardin wants Council to take up the issue in early 2019.
