When you think about canals in Ohio, you naturally think about the Ohio Erie Canal and places like Canal Winchester and other ālockā towns. But there used to be a canal that came right into the heart of downtown, connecting the Capital City to the profitable canal network that changed the economy of the entire state. But youāll see almost no evidence of that important past if you walk along the old canal route today. The city changed and grew and the waterway that helped it flourish disappeared entirely.
