Here are the 10 best Columbus diners for when you're looking for that throwback, comfort food experience.
Hello Wednesday. It's James.
Heaven knows we could all use some comfort food, along with some comforting places right now. Zoey has put together a list that you'll want to bookmark the next time you just want a giant plate of something that'll make you feel better. The Rundown:Weather: 86. Partly sunny. Small chance of thunderstorms after 1pm, 20% chance of precipitation. To do: Die Antwoord is playing Express Live. Navigator Originals:Amazon Opening Instant Pickup Store In Columbus [Wiley]Amazon continues to eat all commercial activity, will now give you the option of picking up ordered items in a physical store. Until they start operating delivery drones out of these, I'm not seeing the benefit or convenience over running to any other store. The brilliance of Amazon, and Prime, for me at least, is the realization that I can wait two days for nearly anything I need. And given that Amazon usually has the best prices and robust reviews, it becomes an easy call. If I really need something right now there's any number of stores that seem equally fine, and Amazon loses their advantage.Bonchon In Clintonville Has Closed And Now All Joy Has Left Us Forever [Miller]If you want Bonchon Korean chicken deliciousness you're now going to have to drive all the way to Cleveland. No word on if they'll be trying the Columbus market again anytime soon.BrewDog Raises $7 Million During Crowd Funding Campaign [Wiley]With this latest round of $7 million, BrewDog's total crowd funding take is now almost $41 million.Construction Begins On The New Hilliard Branch Library Project [Miller]An under covered story in recent years is how much the library is killing it with their newly designed branches. They have all been beautiful additions to the Columbus metro area. Hilliard's upgrade is the latest to break down.Get Ready To Laugh: Whose Live Anyway? Is Coming To Columbus [Wiley]Whose Line Is It Anyway? is coming to Columbus, in an incarnation called "Whose Live Anyway?" The show will be September 22nd, and Chelsea has more details at the link.Supercars, Muscle Cars, And More At Columbus Cars And Coffee [Wiley]Nationwide Blvd. was closed down over the weekend for Columbus Cars and Coffee, a car show that featured all kinds of interesting exotics and antiques. The highlights video is pretty cool, just seeing supercars driving around Columbus, even if you're not a big car person.Hilliard Police Just Made A CHiPs Parody Video For Their New Motorcycle Unit And It’s Actually Kind Of Awesome [Miller]More of this please.
The Wednesday Conversation:Parking will be a little more challenging at Ohio State home games this fall. 2,100 spots are being eliminated for a project to straighten and elevate Cannon Drive, with the goal of protecting the medical center, which sits in a flood plain. [Dispatch/Perry]ESPN will be "megacasting" Ohio State's opener vs. Indiana. This means the game will be shown on multiple networks, with a traditional broadcast as well as alternate presentations. Some of these alternatives will include a Coaches Film Room, All-22 (the footage and viewpoint of the field that scouts and coaches favor), home team broadcasts with home team announcers, a Skycam perspective, and others. Just 15 days away. [11W/Hope]Did you know there's an Ohio Ice Cream Trail? It somehow features Graeter's for the Columbus stop instead of something actually local like Jeni's, or my personal pick, Johnson's, but the rest of the list is interesting. [OnlyInYourState]
Longread for your lunch break:I actually got my start working online with sports blogging, creating a community of Cincinnati Reds fans in 2002 and running it for six years. After some early growth, I was approached by SB Nation and became their second blogger to sign on. I stayed for a few years, but other projects began taking the lion's share of my time and I had to move on. In that time, there was some talk of equity sharing, and eventually payments for work, but nothing materialized. It's a little depressing to hear that not much has changed a decade later, as they've built a billion dollar company off the backs of writers mostly "doing it as a hobby" and if it's fun, the argument goes, you might not need payment for the work. Right? This kind of thing was rampant in the early days of the internet, but I'd honestly thought we had moved on. An interesting read on a modern day media giant, and how they got to where they are today.
