The Downtown Social Justice Park Is Now Open 🌳🌳🌳

Columbus Navigator Logo

Happy Tuesday, it's James.

When the Washington Gladden Social Justice Park was

, it created quite a bit of buzz, but also some confusion, understandably since it was to be the first of it's kind.

Well, now we have a finished product, and it's a welcome addition to downtown. It's pocket park sized (which I'm a huge fan of - give me a million pocket parks, all over Columbus), with an interesting debut mural that's worth a trip to check out. Hit the link up top to see what the initial renderings looked like, which you can compare to the finished product in the link below, and let us know what you think.

Guys, we are so far from beach season. It's time to stock up for winter hibernation. Here's your strategy guide for the next two months.

This house is so ridiculous and yet I love it SO MUCH. Maybe it won't sell and they'll pivot to cabana rental, which ok, I'd be on board.

7 Things To Know ❀️

  1. Columbus is one of 20 cities to win a $2.5 million grant from Bloomberg Climate Challenge, a program which seeks to accelerate efforts to alleviate climate change at the city level. Columbus plans to use the money to increase home energy audits, assist in financing efforts for energy efficiency and renewables for commercial buildings, develop a transit app that will display all possible transit options, and market high-frequency transit lines. It's an interesting program - hit the link for more about the grant, or click this for more about the Climate Challenge[Bloomberg] πŸŒŽ

  2. There have been some rumblings that Urban Meyer might be nearing the end of his tenure at Ohio State, but he put that to bed Monday, announcing that he's planning on coaching in 2019. [ESPN] πŸˆ

  3. Last chance alert: KISS has announced a farewell tour, and they'll be coming to Columbus March 16th, 2019 at Nationwide. [Rolling Stone] πŸŽΈ

  4. Major props to 10TV for the investigative work they are doing on police officer Andrew Mitchell. Mitchell is under an FBI investigation which has spread to the entirety of CPD's Vice unit, after killing 23-year-old Donna Castleberry on August 23rd. 10TV has discovered that Castleberry owns rental properties that have seen police response 500+ times over the past five years for "criminal complaints ranging from homicides to sex crimes, child endangerment and at least one vice complaint". Also, Columbus police have evidently repeatedly provided above and beyond protection for Mitchell since August 23rd, dispatching officers on 7 separate occasions. [10TV] πŸš¨

  5. Here's the story behind the Umbrella Girl statue in Schiller Park, which includes a holiday mystery. [Columbus Alive] β˜”️

  6. One of John Kasich's last battles in office has been an effort to alleviate Lake Erie's algae bloom. This has led to a power struggle with state agriculture director David Daniels, who opposed farm regulations dealing with fertilizer (runoff from nitrogen-rich fertilizer ends up in the lake, causing the algae bloom). Kasich fired Daniels last week. The upcoming governor's election has also featured this issue. [WOSU] πŸ’§

  7. Tuesday Weather: 🌑64 and mostly sunny. 🌀🌀🌀

Social Justice Park

I'm interested to see how this park will evolve, especially once the trees mature a bit, but for now, it's already a peaceful spot.
