A downtown Crew stadium proposal has been made - and the idea is beautiful ⚽️
Hello Tuesday. It's James.
We've reached the portion of the process where credible ideas for downtown stadiums start being generated. It's possible there's literally nothing that could be done to keep the Crew in town, but the effort has to be made, and the ball is now rolling.
Interestingly, this isn't just a stadium plan. It would also involve building a much needed Children's Theatre, and it would also see improvements to the Columbus State campus, including a cafe for the new School of Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts.
Of course, if a stadium ever gets built it probably won't look much like this proposal. But it's an intriguing plan, especially for a first draft.

Around Town 🏘The New York Times visits the midwest to look at tech investing, and the article has a Columbus byline. This will shock and surprise you, I'm sure, but the article discusses local media magnet and bootstrap lover JD Vance and his work with former AOLer Steve Case. Their firm, Revolution, plans to raise $100 million to invest in midwestern startups. [New York Times]Sad news about an Ohio State football legend. Terry Glenn died in a car accident late Sunday night/early Monday. Glenn's story was fascinating and inspiring even if you're not an OSU football fan (or interested in sports at all). He was a walk on at Ohio State who went on to become a top 10 NFL draft pick, all after a difficult upbringing. Glenn never knew his father and his mother was killed by a stalker when he was 12. This Yahoo article goes into his history, which really was incredible. RIP. [Yahoo]Michael Arace points out what I talked about a week ago: the largest corporations in Columbus don't seem plugged into the #SaveTheCrew movement. The reason why is hard to understand, but it seems as if a solution could be figured out if the Fortune 1000 companies in Columbus wanted to see the Crew stay. Austin doesn't have the corporate giants that Columbus has (they only have two companies in the Fortune 500 - Whole Foods and Dell Computers), but ours need to be engaged. [Dispatch/Arace]We've avoided mentioning it on the site or in this newsletter so far, because the point of Navigator isn't to point out ridiculous politicians (only sometimes!), but at this point we have to bring up the elephant in the room. This situation with the anti-gay state rep who turned out to be gay and harassing everyone has gotten crazy, yeah? Over 30 individuals are now accusing Republican representative Wes Goodman of sexual misconduct. [Vice]

Picture of the Day ⚽️My heart really is behind this Crew plan, against all logical reason - anything involving the Crew is a long shot now - best to not get too attached to anything specific, and just hope for the best. But I've long thought the Discovery District is a majorly unrecognized and kind of unloved part of the city. Putting something like a soccer stadium there would be huge. (📷: jsaiv_photography)
