Take a nostalgic look back at Columbus through these 1970s photographs 📷😎

Columbus Navigator Logo

Hello Tuesday. It's Chelsea.

I hope you're all ready for a big helping of nostalgia. In the late 1970s, a photographer by the name of John Margolies hit the road and began documenting roadside attractions throughout America. He spent some time in Columbus and Ohio, and his photographs are truly a blast from the past. There are iconic Columbus spots, like the Kahiki Restaurant and the Yukon Building, as well as others that have been lost to history. Take a look, they're pretty groovy. 📷

Tuesday Weather 🌡79 with showers and thunderstorms. Expect heavy rain, half an inch to three-quarters of an inch expected. ⛈🌧

Navigator Originals ✏️How To Celebrate National Avocado Day In ColumbusIt's the most wonderful day of the year. Not only is it Harry Potter's birthday, it's also National Avocado day. I'm a millennial and therefore, my love of avocados surpasses all else. In all seriousness, they're an awesome little fruit, and if you want to enjoy them, here are some of the best avocado-based dishes around Columbus. 🥑This Victorian-Era Grove City Home Is Full Of HistoryWalnut Ridge Estate was constructed in 1865. Around Town 🏘Anthony Precourt has a stadium deal with Austin, sort of. It still needs to be voted on by Austin City Council, and will need to overcome various lawsuits (the Ohio suit, as well as a potential suit by an Austin attorney who acts as a taxpayer watchdog). The lease calls for Precourt to pay out of pocket to build a stadium, which Austin would own and collect $550,000 of rent on after a six year period of zero rent. [WOSU/Stayton] 🏟⚽️However, MLS officials have been meeting with Columbus Partnership members and discussing "what we might do together should the Crew leave Columbus" and further "Columbus Partnership CEO Alex Fischer has been encouraged by Abbott's recent visits, and said he feels that it's a priority for the league to keep a team in Columbus, which he described as "a big attitude change"." [ESPN] ⚽️This is why state fairs are wonderful: the world's largest buckeye is currently on display at the Ohio State Fair, weighing in at 350 pounds. [614 Now] 🍫🥜An urban planning blog has an article touting the "structural advantages" of Columbus, particularly highlighting things like Ohio State, our "streetcar suburbs", a solid legacy built environment, and a large state to pull talent from. The blog also wrote about Columbus in 2009, calling it "the new Midwestern star". [Urbanophile] 🏙
