11 Wonderful Winter Festivals Are Calling Your Name πŸ»β„️

Happy Tuesday! Chelsea here.

This year has gotten off to an, let's say, interesting start. Winter is always a tough time of year for me. I miss the sunshine and leaving my house without a ton of layers. But there's plenty of joy to be found in these colder months if you know where to look. Winter Festivals are a great way to embrace the season and enjoy yourself. From ice sculptures to cultural events to beer fests, Central Ohio sure knows how to make these gloomy months more exciting.

Columbus has some of the best breweries around. But which one do people love the most? Untappd is an amazing resource for craft beer lovers. It allows users to rate and rank beers and breweries all around the world. Any guesses on who came out on top in Columbus?

New downtown plans usually get me pretty excited, I'm not going to lie. But this new PNC Plaza update has me over the moon. From the nature-filled, publicly accessible garden to the new restaurants, to the apartments, I'm excited about all of it. Especially the waterfall. These renderings are seriously stunning.

Talking Points ❀️

The "Local" Paper πŸ“°

Dispatch design was outsourced to Austin years ago, and now printing will suffer a similar fate with all operations moving to Indianapolis. 188 people will lose their jobs in Columbus because of the move, and deadlines for the paper will have to move back several hours, meaning the paper is going to be even further behind online news on a day to day basis (and maybe say goodbye to reading about the Buckeyes in your Sunday paper, at least when it comes to the higher-profile night games.)

Made In Columbus "trails" are a great excuse to try new experiences and places in Columbus, as this travel writer demonstrates in the link below.

Weird Ohio History πŸ’

A piece of Ohio history that I had no idea about - the Blue Jackets were not the first NHL team in Ohio. That honor goes to the Cleveland Barons who existed from 1976-1978. They also have the honor of being the last major United States professional franchise to fold. Reading this article is like reading a dispatch from an entirely different planet - it's hard to imagine a time when closing the doors to a major professional sports franchise was a more suitable choice than moving cities or selling.

Ooh, local superstar photographer Mitch Geiser just announced a book that will feature 111 individual locations around Columbus, including the South Drive-In you see above. The release date is January 16th, but it looks like the book is

, or you can contact Geiser directly to buy a copy via Instagram (link below or click the photo.) His Instagram account is outstanding and I'm sure the book will be too.
