The holidays are going to be over before we know it - I can't be the only one who feels like we are speeding through December. Chelsea has compiled a list of 10 things around Columbus you have to check out before the holidays are over. The list could double as a "10 best holiday events in Columbus" write up.

I'm not sure if you're officially a local until you've seen or done at least half of this list. Get cracking. πŸŽ„

Around Town 🏘Columbus Department of Public Service has a new hire who will be in charge of untangling the parking situation in the Short North. The Dispatch talks to new assistant director for parking services Robert Ferrin about the challenges with parking in the Short North. It's encouraging that Ferrin immediately makes mention of the most obvious solution - making it so less Short North residents and visitors need to drive in. A permit plan was abandoned over the summer when residents complained. Ferrin comes to the city with a background that saw him work on parking challenges in similar situations to the Short North in both Denver and Aurora, Colorado. [Dispatch/Rouan]A Crew fan has put together a history of professional soccer in Columbus that runs through 2012. Do you remember the Columbus Xoggz? (Is that the worst team name in the history of professional sports?) One thing many people who aren't soccer fans might not realize is what a deep history the city has with soccer. One more reason the loss of the Crew is an ongoing tragedy. [Be Massive Soccer]Mass transit seems to be a non-starter in central Ohio, so it looks like we are going to instead go with a "smart" strategy of "all of the above (but not mass transit)." Next City looks at the recent decision by city council to allow low speed ride services in the city, which is a bigger deal than it may sound. It will open up Columbus to a variety of transportation options, but in practice mostly golf carts and golf cart-like vehicles. It is something that will become very common in areas like the Short North, and I would think other dense neighborhoods like campus or Franklinton in a few years. [Next City]
