A Compelling Case For Getting Married...At A Metro Park πŸ‘¬πŸ‘πŸ’

Columbus Navigator Logo

It's Thursday, Tracie here.

Our very own Chelsea is a married woman πŸ””. She talked about her honeymoon

, and now is giving us a glimpse at her own wedding day. Why is this relevant to our daily newsletter? Because she was able to take advantage of one of our greatest resources, the metro parks system. If you're planning a wedding, or any party, really, the parks system offers an affordable (and picturesque) setting.πŸ“·

And while I did enjoy the location of my own wedding, it was in the days before Pinterest and now I'm kind of wishing for a redo...at Glacier Ridge perhaps. I'll have to ask my husband if he'd like to renew our vows?

Ohio might not be widely known for rushes of adrenaline, but you might be surprised about what it has to offer. 🏁September 8 Medical Marijuana Deadline Is A Bust. No New Date Announced.Fun fact: it takes just about 16 weeks to grow a marijuana plant.  That's how legislatures know that the September deadline is now just a pipe dream (I couldn't help it πŸ˜‚). This UA Mid-Century Stunner Is On The Market For $1.9 MillionWho doesn't love mid-century modern architecture? And nowhere does it seem to be more prevalent locally than in Upper Arlington. Just take a look at those windows 😍.

Around Town 🏘The Columbus Arts festival is this weekend, and while you can certainly pick up a cool conversation piece by a local artisan, there are also plenty of activities for the whole family. Not to mention the FOOD πŸ•. Plus, new this year, free kayaking and canoeing 🚣. [Columbus Parent]Longtime city auditor Hugh Dorrian retired last year after an impressive 52 year long career as a public servant πŸ‘΄. Today, Dorrian Green Park will be dedicated in his name. Full disclosure, I worked for Mr. Dorrian for 5 years, so I'm especially excited for this, but even if you don't follow city politics, this will be a fun event to fill these long days of summer πŸ‘. Longread πŸ“ΉI remember going to see The Truman Show when it was in theaters. I had already seen Ace Ventura and The Mask and was anticipating another hilarious Jim Carrey film. Don't judge me, I was 15, and that's the kind of humor I found funny. Not long into the film, I realized it was not going to be the same sort of movie. It wasn't funny.  It was unsettling, and I remember feeling almost melancholy afterward.Twenty years ago, the filmmakers and cast didn't fathom how much it might end up mirroring reality, and here, they reflect back on the movie, and today's plugged in society.β€œWe couldn’t quite believe that someone would want to tape themselves, so that people could tune in and watch what was considered at the time to be mundane, and see that as entertainment.”Vanity Fair: Twenty Years Later, Everything Is The Truman Show
