Vice Prez Mike Pence Will Receive A Warm Ohio Welcome: A Big Gay Dance Party ๐ง๐๐ฏ

Happy Thursday, it's Tracie.
When I read about this event, I immediately started hearing Lady Gaga's 'Just Dance' in my head. While I understand some people will find this offensive (Roseanne andScott Baio come to mind), it's a peaceful, and probably fun, way to protest. My song recommendation is Bob Marley's 'Get Up, Stand Up," but with a veritable who's who of Columbus queer icons in attendance, I'm sure the music will be stellar no matter what. ๐๐ถ

Around Town ๐For the past several weeks, the "Brecksville Bear" was enjoying his fill at neighborhood bird feeders, and, according to wildlife officials, slowly making his way east, in search of a new territory. He almost made it. The 400lb black bear was hit by two vehicles on I-77, ending his life. I was going to make a joke about the bear crossing the road, but this is actually pretty sad. I bear-ly made it through the article. ๐ป [Dispatch]There will be more than one Pride Festival in town this weekend, with the Black Queer & Intersectional Columbus group holding their first annual Pride event at Mayme Moore Park this Saturday. Longread Thereโs no shortage of stories of women and children being attacked for their hair โ robbed by gun or knifepoint in Venezuela, India, South Africa, Ukraine, Myanmar, and elsewhere โ and held down as thieves forcibly cut off their ponytails. Without required traceability, the door is left open for this to happen all over the world by criminals hoping to make a quick buck on virgin hair. But collecting a large amount of quality hair requires women to give it voluntarily, so itโs more common for hair dealers to travel from region to region buying hair from disenfranchised women until the supply dries up. โRefinery29: Death Threats And $3 Ponytails: What The Fake Hair Trade Is Hiding
