On Sunday if you would have asked me what my favorite season was, it certainly wouldn't have been summer. But now that it's not hot and miserable, I find myself falling in love with summer again. And since we're on the topic of having a lovely summer, I've got a suggestion. If you're up for a little day trip, head down to Hocking Hills for a tubing adventure! You can relax in the sunshine as you float gently down the Hocking River. 💦

A Hotel Boom 🏗

Downtown and Short North will add over 1,100 new hotel rooms in the next few years,

which should make Columbus more competitive for convention business

. According to that linked article, hotel bookings with existing downtown rooms are very strong, at 70-72%.

by a retail trade magazine. Easton is something I don't appreciate fully until I visit places without good retail. And if you don't have contact with rural Ohio, let me tell you: Easton is a highlight destination for many, many people. "Going to Columbus" is as likely to mean Easton as the actual city.

Relentless 🎓

You might have thought Ohio would make changes when it came to underperforming and out and out scam charter schools, but you'd have been wrong. The ECOT scandal cost Ohio taxpayers over $124 million in overpayments, but just a year later rules for closing failing charter schools have been relaxed. As many as 52 schools were in danger of closing, depending on 2019 state report cards, now none will be forced to close for failing academically unless they have yet another low-performance year.
