20 Signs You Eat, Sleep, And Breathe Columbus β€οΈπŸ˜

Happy Thursday! It's Chelsea.

It's no secret that hometown pride is pretty strong here in Columbus. We're just genuinely pretty excited anytime anyone else recognizes how awesome we are. But we also have our quirks. If you've ever seen a fellow Columbusite (I really think we deserve a cooler name than that) out in the wild, then you know what I'm talking about. How many of these things are you guilty of? I'm 20 for 20 here. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

As the government shutdown drags on, we know that life is getting harder for those of you not getting paid. So we put together a list of places around Columbus that are offering free goods or services to federal workers who are furloughed. We'll keep updating it too, so be sure to bookmark!

Speaking of the government, did you know that the Bush family had ties to Columbus? Samuel Prescott Bush, great grandfather of George W. Bush built his mansion in Marble Cliff. If you've got a cool $1 million, it could be yours.

Talking Points ❀️

Startup Heaven πŸ’Έ

VentureBeat says Columbus "dominated Midwest startup growth in 2018". They point out Root Insurance is now valued at over $1 billion, giving Columbus another $1 billion+ startup following the sale of CoverMyMeds for $1.1 billion in 2017. VentureBeat gives much of the Columbus startup growth credit to Drive Capital, the rapidly growing VC firm founded six years ago by two ex-Sequoia partners. Drive is even convincing some of the companies in their portfolio to move to Columbus.

The DeWine administration comes into focus πŸ’Έ

Mike DeWine announced yesterday he will be signing the "heartbeat bill" that former governor John Kasich vetoed. The bill makes abortion illegal at six weeks and is expected to be immediately challenged in court. Ohio tax dollars will then go towards litigation, possibly all the way to the Supreme Court.

A solid new brunch option πŸ₯“

Cosecha Cocina recently added a brunch option, and naturally, Breakfast With Nick checked it out. I love the renovation Cosecha did of what was once a brick dairy barn, and they've been garnering praise from some notable individuals, including Alton Brown from Food Network, who called their salsa one of the best he's ever tasted. The new brunch looks super creative and fun.
