The most expensive house on the Columbus market just dropped its price $1 million π‘
Susan H Jeffries, wife of former Abercrombie CEO Michael Jeffries (an ... interesting guy - if you haven't read
that singlehandedly torpedoed Abercrombie & Fitch's image you really should, because who doesn't enjoy a good trainwreck?) put her house on the market nearly two years ago for a cool $5 million.
It has not sold, but the price held firm until very recently, when it was dropped $1 million.
This property is the old Wolfe family estate, one of the most famous Columbus families and, naturally, one of the most famous homes in Columbus. The house has over 11k sq feet of living space, and sits on four acres that overlook Wolfe Park. The pictures ... you should see the pictures. It's all breathtaking in that otherworldly "hard to believe people really live like this" way, but I'm mostly drooling over the landscaping. So beautifully precise and neat. Check it out and see if any of it appeals to you.

Winking Lizard wanted to stay, but the owner would not extend their lease, favoring this new development instead.House Wine Is Opening A New Location In BexleyWorthington's House Wine is opening a second location in Bexley, just a few doors down from Drexel Theatre. Should be open in early 2018.Low Income Pet Owners Can Now Have Their Dogs Spayed And Neutered For FreeYour fact for the day: just one unspayed female dog and her offspring can produce 67,000 dogs in just six years. 67,000 puppies sounds like the world I want to live in, but sadly, of course, there aren't homes for the dogs we have now. 86% of the dogs that came into Franklin County shelter last year were not fixed, a number I found more shocking than the 67k figure above. A new program aiming to get that number down will allow low income pet owners to get their dogs spayed or neutered for free. Uh-Oh! Park Street Cantina Loses Liquor License Due To Underage ViolationsPark Street Cantina is in some hot water for underage serving. This is apparently the go to place for Ohio State students to get served underage? That's a pretty decent hike from campus. I guess things really have changed since I was a student at OSU - it wasn't tough to get served within a few blocks of a South Campus dorm in the late 90's.
Around Town πCU points out that the new Scioto Peninsula development will have 2,500+ residents by 2028. That might sound like a minor number, but the total population of downtown is only projected to hit 10,000 next year. This should have cascading effects on downtown residency, as I would expect the rest of East Franklinton to see dense development if this project is successful. [Columbus Underground/Evans]The charter school ECOT may have exhausted appeals concerning the $60 million in fines the company owes for falsifying attendance information. The Ohio Supreme Court denied their latest appeal, and the company says they will run out of money in March. Only one Supreme Court justice ruled in ECOT's favor - Terrence OβDonnell, who was the keynote speaker at ECOT's graduation in 2013. [Dispatch/Siegel]Richard Cordray announced his bid for governor on Tuesday, and he's already receiving high profile endorsements. Senator Elizabeth Warren endorsed him Wednesday, saying "Everyone was hit hard by the 2008 financial crisis β but Ohio got hit really hard ... Wall Street had gambled with our economy, and Ohio families paid the price with their jobs, their homes, and their life savings. So Rich Cordray fought back: He took on AIG. And Merrill Lynch/Bank of America. And Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. His office forced Wall Street to return nearly $2 billion to the workers, retirees, and investors of Ohio." Ohio's governor race looks like it's going to have a higher profile nationally than usual. [Dispatch/Schladen]
