Just what is Columbus' identity? It's complicated, right?

Hello Thursday. It's James.

What if Columbus' identity is being a city that is super obsessed with how the rest of the world views it?Ok, that's probably a little too on the nose. Instead, let's try Zoey's take on the question that eternally resurfaces: what exactly is Columbus?Navigator full story: Columbus’ Problem Isn’t That It Lacks Identity, It’s In Failing To Accept The One That It Has [Miller]

Laura Lanese Is Pushing For Shelter Animals To Become The Official Pet Of Ohio [Wiley]Rep. Lanese thinks this initiative could help signal to the world that Ohio is a pet friendly state, something increasingly important with tourism, and anything that gets shelters into people's minds seems like a public good. The 10 Columbus Intersections That Are Most Prone To Hazardous Accidents [Miller]MORPC puts out this list every year, and not a whole lot seems to happen as far as efforts to reduce accidents at these intersections. Most seem to be heavily trafficked, with multiple turn lanes, and a long intersection that probably doesn't do yellow (or, let's be honest, red) light runners any favors. I live near a couple of these and go out of my way to avoid them when I can.

The Thursday Conversation:Republican Ohio lawmakers are pushing a "Campus Free Speech Act" - presumably in reaction to some colleges not allowing white supremacists like Richard Spencer or pedophilia advocates like Milo Yiannopoulos to speak, for fear of potential campus violence. The bill seems to duplicate existing Constitutional first amendment protections according to a former Senate judiciary chairmen quoted in this Dispatch article. [Today]In another example of what Donald Trump hath wrought, Jerry Springer is seriously considering running for governor. Often rumored, but never actually attempted, much like Trump's run, Springer must be thinking this is a time where people are receptive to politics not as usual. I think it's an easy argument to make, but there are many contenders. [11W]Check out this program from the first time the Cleveland Browns ever met up with the Cincinnati Bengals.
