Horses, Jack Hanna, and German beer 🍻
Good morning Columbus.
Feeling better about life after that Ohio State win? I think we sensed most of Columbus breathing a sigh of relief with Ohio State cruising to a win Saturday. The world makes sense again. There's plenty to be excited about this week, including another Ohio State home game, and we've got it all right here. Let's get to it. 👊
15 Things To Do In And Around Columbus This Week
🐎
Monday
Taste some cheap (but delicious) wine.
It's the monthly downtown 10 for $10 wine tasting. This event has proven so popular that they've had to find a bigger venue, and this month they've moved to Pins Mechanical Co.
Tuesday
Check out Sylvan Esso.
The North Carolina indie darlings will be appearing at Express Live. The duo is promoting their sophomore album
What Now
.
Get in some free yoga in a beautiful location.
The Franklin Park Conservatory free yoga class is back. Your host is
and will take place in The Wells Barn.
Wednesday
Watch Bruno Mars work his magic.
Seven number one singles, five Grammy awards, and a lot of old school showmanship will be on display Wednesday night when Bruno comes to Columbus.
Thursday
See a movie with a view of the downtown skyline.
NightLight 614 presents
at Genoa Park. The event includes some great food trucks, including Mikey's Late Night Slice, Pitabilities, Junior's Tacos, and Hai Poke.
Friday
Immerse yourself in world class comedy improv.
Whose Live Anyway?
, the live stage version of
Whose Line Is It Anyway?
, comes to Columbus. Many of the performers you remember from the television show (or the
you went down that one late night) will be present including Ryan Stiles, Greg Proops, Jeff B. Davis, and Joel Murray.
Drink beer and listen to polka.
Columbus Oktoberfest runs Friday through Sunday. The event features kids entertainment, live music, shopping, authentic German cuisine, and, of course, lots of beer.
Saturday
Get up close and personal with Jack Hanna.
Jack Hanna will be live on stage this weekend for Jack Hanna Fall Fest. The event also includes many other shows, including animals bobbing for apples, live music, 4-D theater experiences, an animal encounters village, and other animal shows.
Watch Ohio State play UNLV.
The Buckeyes were 39 point favorites for this game the last time I checked, so don't expect this to be a competitive affair, but hopefully the team can keep working out the kinks with another opponent they should roll.
Check out Gahanna's Creekside Park while sampling some good craft beer, wine and liquor.
The 4th Annual Creekside Hops & Vines Fest takes place from 6:00-11:00pm, and proceeds go to a worthy cause - Gahanna Parks.
Cheer on the Columbus Crew's playoff push.
The Crew are a playoff team as things stand right now, but they'll need a strong finish to keep it that way. They take on the New York Red Bulls in a game where they have to get points.
See one of the most interesting musicians working.
Father John Misty performs at the Palace Theater Saturday evening. The former Fleet Foxes drummer started performing as Father John Misty in 2012, and he's been on a consistently upwards trajectory ever since. Almost guaranteed to be one of the most memorable shows in Columbus this year.
Sunday
Watch world class show horses. And also Nick Jonas.
Both will be on display at the New Albany Fall Classic this Sunday. The annual event is put on by Les Wexner, at his personal residence, to help break the cycle of family violence. Besides the horses and Nick Jonas, there will be a great many kids activities, petting zoos, and good food.
Hear Take The Money And Run live.
Steve Miller Band will be performing Sunday evening, at a fairly intimate venue for a band of their stature. The group has sold over 60 million records in their career that has spanned six decades.
Celebrate fall's arrival.
Columbus Metro Parks are bringing in the season with a Welcome to Fall Festival at Glacier Ridge Metro Park. There will be hay rides, live animals, crafts, and other activities.
