We're creeping up on Halloween, and the event schedule is definitely seeing a shift in that direction. To get you in the mood, how about

Monday

Visit an awesome local food festival.

It's the 9th annual Taste of Bexley, featuring awesome food from Bexley restaurants as well as hard cider from Mad Tree Brewing.

TuesdayDo some good - locally.

It's the Big Give time. The online fundraiser lasts for 26 hours, and benefits over 800 nonprofits operating in central Ohio.

See the first Broadway in Columbus show of the season.

School of Rock

will be running all this week, Tuesday - Sunday. The musical is based on the 2003 film, and features music from Andrew Lloyd Webber, along with music from the original film.

Wednesday

See a blues legend.

CAPA is showcasing blues legend Buddy Guy. Rolling Stone named him the 30th greatest guitarist of all time, and Eric Clapton once called him "the best guitar player alive."

Learn about the dark side of Columbus' history.

Boos and Brews kicks off their season. The tours will run through October 24th and features a 3 hour walking tour that has you visiting all sorts of Short North, Arena District, and Downtown establishments. History and beer, I'm sold.

ThursdayTreasure hunt for some awesome new (to you) books.

It's the Columbus Library book sale! This event is massive and terrific for browsing. Runs through Sunday, but get down there ASAP for the best selection.

Celebrate the birthday of Columbus Jazz Orchestra.

The 2017-2018 season kicks off for Columbus Jazz Orchestra, and they are starting with a birthday celebration. It's been 45 years for Columbus Jazz Orchestra, and they are marking the occasion with a special performance that runs through Sunday.

Friday

Visit a town that really loves Halloween.

They take Halloween seriously down in Chillicothe, with a 3 day festival devoted to the holiday. Lots of Halloween vendors and merchandise, along coffin races, live music, speakers, costume contests, pumpkin carving contests, and much more.

See classic scary movies in the perfect atmosphere: a drive in under the stars.

Saturday

Attend a chili cook-off.

It's the annual Dublin Chili Cook-Off in historic Dublin. The event runs from 1:00 - 4:00 PM, and proceeds benefit the Dublin Food Pantry. You'll get to experience 7 unique chilis, and vote for your favorite, with the winner being named "People's Choice."

Have some grown up Halloween fun.

German Village puts on a mean Halloween party. It begins with an adult trick or treat around German Village sampling various treats from local businesses and finishes up in the German Village Meeting Haus for an all-inclusive party. They'll have the Ohio State game on the big screen, so no worries there, and they'll also have a costume contest, drinks, dancing, and Columbus Crew SC to kick it all off.

Take in 24 hours of horror.

Drexel Theatre, in conjunction with The Ohio Science Fiction and Horror Marathons, is hosting Shock Around the Clock. There will be a costume contest, a scream contest (yep), lots of classic 35mm trailers and shorts, and of course, a boatload of classic horror movies.

SundayTake in a big city marathon (or: run a big city marathon).

It's the 2017 Nationwide Children's Hospital Columbus Marathon. If you're running - good luck! And if you're not, it's a great event to volunteer at or just witness in person.

The Columbus Dispatch paywall is understandable (money being necessary for continued operations and all), but why they don't drop it when it comes to stories in the community interest, I'm not sure. Their dedicated readers don't seem to be sure either.

The chance these originated from a disgruntled employee or rival business seems pretty high, but where ever they came from doesn't change the real damage being done with actions like these. I was not expecting "hate flyers" to be a recurring Columbus news story in 2017, but here we are.
