Central Ohio Students Share Stories Of In School Discrimination On Instagram

Happy Monday! Chelsea here.

Welcome back to another week. I thought we'd start this Monday morning off by showing a little admiration for Gen Z. I was born in the late 80s and I will admit that like many of my peers, I find myself being pretty cynical about the world at times. But Gen Z isn't here for our inaction. They're already making the world a better place and they're using their voices to make real and meaningful change. These students from around Central Ohio have created Instagram accounts directed at their school districts to share their experiences with racism and discrimination.

These stories are upsetting, horrifying, and frustrating and at times, they will be hard to read. But if we're allowing our young people to live through these experiences, the literal least we can do is fight through the discomfort of reading them.

I find myself looking for new ways to experience summer in Ohio while we're dealing with the impacts of COVID-19. Spending a lot of time outdoors and at parks seems to be our main plan from everything to daily activities to mini-vacations. If you're planning on visiting Ohio's State Parks this summer, you'll want to grab one of these incredible new passports before hitting the road.

Police again maced protestors on Sunday, just days after Mayor Ginther promised CPD would no longer use tear gas or pepper spray against peaceful protestors. You can read

Talking Points ❀️

Very Dramatic πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

This video of a man dramatically reading Upper Arlington community Facebook posts is one of the best things I've seen in months. I only wish he had access to every local community Facebook group, particularly places like Bexley, Clintonville, and Powell (from what I've seen and heard about - any other notably bonkers cities, towns, or neighborhoods out there?)

DIY All Over β˜€οΈ

Here's a nice set of articles from Columbus Monthly, all about summer vacation and the unique ideas we'll all need to make the best of where we're at right now. I particularly enjoyed

BLM In Rural Ohio

We touched on small-town Ohio protests

, which has made me interested in accounts of marches and protests in towns with little to no history of this kind of thing. This article from Alive touches on a couple of those kinds of places and I found it all compelling, particularly given what
