8 Columbus Businesses Express Support And Solidarity For Protestors ❤️

Columbus Arts Fest In Place

We may be socially distancing but we still can be virtually together. During the Columbus Arts Fest in Place, June 12-14, you can shop for artwork online directly from 2020 Arts Fest artists, explore our Big Local artists and performers and participate in our Arts Fest Chalk Challenge. Click here for details!  🖼🎨

Welcome to June. Chelsea here.

I've been attempting to write this intro for hours now, but none of my words seem sufficient to the challenge. I'm heartbroken, exhausted, and aching for change, as I'm sure you are too. The time for silence has passed. If you aren't having important conversations about systemic racism and the devastation it's causing, now is the time to lift your voice. Some Columbus businesses took the opportunity to do just that over the weekend.

In times like these of heightened emotion and justifiable rage, it's crucial to take care of yourself and allow for moments of kindness and joy. This new mural was designed in response to COVID-19, but the message has never been more important.

Heads up - some of these clips are difficult to watch.

Talking Points ❤️

Official Responses To Weekend Events 🚨

It's important to know how officials responded to this weekend. Mayor Ginther had some extremely mild Tweets essentially saying police misconduct was unacceptable that he subsequently deleted, while some city council members and others called for the city to implement the recent Community Safety Advisory Commission's plan along with the rest of the Matrix report -

.

A selection of responses, all worth reading:

Surreal 🚨

I have a hard time nailing down what the most surreal moment was during the last three days, but it was probably Rep. Joyce Beatty and City Council Shannon Hardin getting pepper-sprayed by our police. (Second place: the lead guitarist of the band The National being accused of paying rioters

.)

Some Pig 🐷

We need at least one slightly lighter story today and I feel like this would have big water cooler potential in simpler times - Canal Winchester is currently battling a woman who lives with an emotional support pig named Charlotte.

Columbus Donut Week

Columbus Donut Week is a week-long city-wide celebration of the donuts of Columbus and the people who make them, sponsored by Pure Equity Group. It takes place the week of national donut day (June 1-7) and this year we are excited to support Service! Relief Kitchen. For more details click here! 🍩🍩

I'm not sure what the narrative is going to be coming out of this weekend, but I'm going to end with this thought - a lot of people spend a great deal of time and money trying to convince us this is the only way things can be. They want us to think a better world isn't realistic or possible. But it is. ❤️
