Two new BrewDog bars are opening soon (and Franklinton's rooftop patio may be the best in Columbus) πŸ»

Welcome back to the grind. It's James.

In future decades, will we look back at this time in Columbus as the rise of BrewDog?

Ok, maybe that's going too far (there's a dozen other major things happening to Columbus that I think we'll remember as being Big Deals in this decade), but we should revisit the question this summer after the new BrewDog bars in the Short North and Franklinton open. The Short North location is on track for an April open date, with their Franklinton bar to open shortly after in May. If they shape up like the renderings we're all going to be very impressed.

And don't forget,

, has broken ground for a potential summer opening. We're entering the era of BrewDog.

Around Town 🏘Some good news: Ohio has finished clearing a backlog of untested rape kits that they have been working through since 2011. This problem has been in the news quite a bit in recent years (Detroit uncovered 800+ serial rapists). Ohio had over 14,000 kits to test, and clearing this backlog connected 300 suspects to over 1,200 offenses. [WOSU/Evans]The Dispatch covers the boom in new downtown apartments, including an interesting drove fly by of some of the currently in progress projects under construction. This year should see 1,200 new residences come on line, and even though that number represents numerous projects, it may not be enough to keep up with demand,. This is discussed in the article when a developer points out that it's difficult to add density downtown - even mid-rises are only 50-150 units. Compare that to suburban development where it's relatively easy to find an empty plot of land and build a 200-400 unit complex. [Dispatch/Weiker]Baby boomers will remember the days when bronzing baby shoes was a Major Thing, but those days are behind us. This has caused the upcoming closure of the American Bronzing Company, which is still currently the largest bronzing and silver restoration company in America. The headquarters of American Bronzing are located in Columbus, just outside of Bexley, and the company once made millions annually in revenue. Cultural shifts (it's the rare individual who bronzes anything or has a full set of silver these days) have been too much to endure for the company, and it will be shutting down once current orders are closed out. Picture of the Day β˜”οΈThe rain over the weekend was a little much for February, right? My backyard is a swamp, and I'm sure I'm not alone. 23 was closed at 270S Sunday, due to ... well look at it. (πŸ“·: 10tv)
