Ready to see your face projected onto a 14 foot tall human head sculpture? The "ultimate selfie machine" debuts in Columbus.
Hello Friday. It's James.
Columbus has some truly awesome public art, but I get the sense everyone is still waiting for that one big piece of public art that everyone will think of when they think of Columbus. (
) The convention center has unveiled a massive 14 foot sculpture of a human head that will take your face and project it onto said sculpture with over 800,000 LED lights. The result is interesting, and should definitely be Instagram worthy. Former Mayor Coleman gave it a whirl, click through to see him demonstrating how it works.

Some exceptions will be made for cases like cancer patients or end of life care, but for most your prescription is going to be up in just a week. This will add a world of hassle to legitimate uses, so hopefully it will pay off when it comes to overdose prevention, and hopefully analysis of the program going forward will be data driven. Basically: if it works, terrific, but if it doesn't hopefully the data will be listened to and the plan will be rolled back.
The Friday Conversation:Central Ohio's equestrian community is evidently growing quickly, and Matt Harris has capitalized on this to build the largest equestrian facility in the Columbus area. It's located on 75 acres in Johnstown and has state of the art jumping areas, 250 stalls, event space, and hospitality areas. Harris has invested over $10 million into the property, and it's impressive. Hit the link to check out photos. [Business First/Newpoff]As you probably already know, the Ohio State Buckeyes defeated Indiana in their opener, 49-21. Freshman running back JK Dobbins looks like a star in the making, and set a record for most rushing yards by a freshman running back making their debut, with 181 yards on 29 carries. [Eleven Warriors]No charges will be filed in the Ohio State fair ride incident that killed one and injured seven. Attorneys for the victims argue “metallurgical fractures” on the ride's arm were visible to the naked eye, and they will be pursuing a civil case. [Dispatch/Rinehart]
Longread for your lunch break:Yesterday was the 20th anniversary of Princess Diana's death. For millennials and younger, it's hard to imagine just what a massive media figure Diana was (myself included here - I was still fairly young when she died).I'm not sure it would be possible now for the world to be as transfixed with a British Royal in the same way that it was with Diana. The media is too fractured, attention too fragmented. The attention paid to Princess Kate is immense, but still doesn't approach the amount of fascination the world had with Diana. The Guardian and writer Hilary Mantel use the occasion of this anniversary to talk about how Diana's fame was largely an artifice, based "only loosely ... on the young woman born Diana Spencer".
