The most innovative thing being built in the Short North might actually be a future proofed parking garage. π
Hello Snowmageddon. It's James.
It feels like very day brings news of a new rooftop patio or mixed use development building springing up in the Short North, but one of the most innovative buildings being built actually happens to be a parking garage.
Evan Weese explores the thought process behind future proofing this garage for a time when we might need drastically fewer parking spots.

Friday + Weekend Weather π‘βοΈπ¨ High of 49, dropping through the day. Ice and snow incoming. Ice of up to .1 inches expected Friday, then 3-5 inches of snow Friday evening and overnight. Very windy as well, with gusts of up to 40 mph. Another half inch of snow is possible on Saturday, and it will get very cold, with a high of 17 on Saturday, and 19 on Sunday, and sub-zero wind chills at times. Stay safe - it sounds like a good weekend for Netflix and being an indoor kid.

President Trump has taken an interest in Sherrod Brown's seat, and is pushing wealthy Congressman Jim Renacci as his candidate.Inner City Expansion And A Lack Of Fresh Food Alternatives Have Left The City Riddled With Areas Of FamineZoey explores what it does to a person to not have easy access to nutrition that doesn't come from a corner store, as well as Columbus food deserts in general.
Around Town πIf you've ever looked at a map of Columbus, you've probably noticed Clinton Township, and for good reason It's weird. The township isn't continuous, with unconnected borders that aren't particularly close. WOSU looks at how this came to be, and why Clinton Township was never annexed by Columbus. [WOSU/Timmerman]The Columbus Zoo will be offering free admission Monday for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. [NBC4]Sherrod Brown has proposed a $75 billion package to repair America's bridges, which, as you have probably noticed, sometimes fall down now. The US DOT says 2,000 bridges in Ohio are structurally deficient, and they also say the country needs $123 billion to actually fix the problems with bridges in this country. Ohio alone needs $30 billion (if you've ever white knuckled it across the Brent Spence Bridge in Cincinnati you probably have a deep understanding of this number.) Brown is calling for President Trump's $1 trillion infrastructure spending to actually come to fruition. [WOSU/St. Clair]An Ohio woman named Ruth Ann Slade celebrated her 104th birthday on Thursday. She has beaten breast cancer twice. Impressive, yeah? More impressive is that she survived a patio door falling on her leg, pinning her for 18 hours, when she was NINETY-FOUR. I am going to remember this story the next time I feel like complaining about anything. Slade credits eating fresh food from her family garden for her longevity, as well as never getting married, which any married person would admit is fair. [Kiro7]
