This list of AIA Columbus' 2019 architecture awards is a fantastic look at the best of what was built in Columbus in 2019, and I can't argue with any of their award winners. I just can't get over how beautifully made all of the new Columbus library branches are, and the renovated Humane Society still delights me.

Police Chases 🚨

Long-time newsletter subscribers know I keep banging this drum, but central Ohio law enforcement continues maiming and killing pedestrians and innocent bystanders with police chases. Governor Mike DeWine has called for statewide standards,

saying

I’m not advocating or saying there never should be a police chase ... That’s not what I’m saying at all. But what I am saying is these are life and death decisions, and it’s time Ohio had a statewide standard.

On Wednesday night, a Gahanna woman, Shannon E. Currier, was killed while in the car with an abusive ex-boyfriend who was fleeing from police in a chase that reached speeds of 90 MPH on two-lane roads in the dark. The man crashed into a tree, killing Currier.
